Surgical procedures are sometimes necessary to keep your cherished pets in good health. Whether your pet comes in for a routine operation or something more advanced, we have the skills and equipment to make sure it is successful. Is anesthesia safe for my pet?

Anesthesia is safe for most pets. We run tests before every procedure to be absolutely certain. From our tests we can determine how much anesthesia to use during surgery and how well your pet will recover.

What surgeries does your hospital offer?

Our hospital is capable of performing various procedures, some of which include:

• Spays and neuters
• Bladder stone removal
• Exploratory surgery (removing foreign objects)
• Skin biopsies
• Orthopedic surgery

How is my pet cared for during surgery?

Our team follows strict protocols during every procedure. Our equipment is modern and allows our technicians to monitor your pet’s blood pressure, oxygen level and heart rate while the surgeon conducts the operation. As stated previously our tests will determine how much anesthesia to administer. There are two types of anesthesia we may use: general or local. General anesthesia is used for most operations, your pet is unconscious for the duration of the surgery and they don’t feel any pain. Anesthesia is given intravenously. To keep your pet asleep we provide gas anesthetic with oxygen through a breathing tube. With local anesthesia your pet is awake but completely numb. (This is often used for minor or less invasive procedures.)

Once surgery has ended we monitor our patients until the anesthesia wears off. Then we send them home for recovery. (Some patients may need to stay overnight.) We provide medications and instructions to make the healing process easier, so you will go home prepared to care for your pet during their recovery.
