Spaying and neutering helps with population control, behaviour, and reduced health risks for pets.
One of the precious responsibilities you have as your loyal companion’s guardian, is that you have the privilege to make all the important decisions about their lives. Having your pet spayed or neutered is one of those major decisions that can have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of your loyal companion. Both surgeries can protect your pet from unwanted pregnancies, cancers, infections and those undesirable behaviours that usually begin when they go into heat.
The difference between both procedures is the gender of the pet. Both procedures prevent pets from reproducing. Neutering is performed on male pets. During the surgery, their testicles are removed. We perform spays on female pets and remove their ovaries and uterus.
Most pets go into heat at 6-months-old, this is when they should have the surgery. To prevent unwanted pregnancies you should spay or neuter them before their first heat cycle.
Absolutely! The surgery can be performed on older pets. Before we perform the surgery we test your pet to see if they are healthy enough to undergo anesthesia. If the tests don’t detect any latent health issues, we schedule the surgery for your pet. To find out if your older pet can have spay or neuter surgery, give us a call at 905-576-3344.
